headlights

Post by bronzeriver on Tue Dec 24, 2013 1:39 am

I would like to know what the general consensus is on our headlights. i think they are terrible, they don't project very far or wide, and when i put brighter bulbs in them, they seem to get blurry. if it seems as if im ranting about it, its because i just drove my cress about 500 miles, about half of it was in the dark. it scared the shit out of me. is there anything i can do, within reason?

maybe my alternator is going out then, also, my car had a couple of people in it, and stuff in the trunk. they've always seemed dull to me, ive tweaked the adjustments a little, odds are i fucked it up!

I feel the same way, I think my mx73 can use a higher output alternator. is there a highee output available that will bolt up with not much modding??

I plan to retrofit my lamps with an hid projectors, get all the lighting you need! Very Happy

ive thought about getting an HID set-up, but im not sure what good it would do in our reflector style headlights. as for another alternator, ive heard of people using camry alternators, go check out the celica-supra forum, they have tons of info.

No not put HIDs in your car. You will be the only one on the road who is pleased with them and under no circumstances are they necessary.

But if for whatever reason you do it anyway... a higher output alternator would make no difference.

maybe i'll put some projectors in my headlights, just gotta go get some from the junkyard first, and do some homework. i looked more closely at my lights, they have condensation inside them, and are pretty badly pitted. should i take a belt sander to them?

Do a good eBay HID kit 6000K and aim your headlights low so you don't blind people...

I just made a set of clear polycarbonate lenses for my stock headlights, I did this so I can do a hid projector retrofit. It's not useless to do a retrofit with the stock fluted lenses, but you get far better output and a crisp cut off line with a crystal clear lens. I'll post pics up soon.

I made a mold of the stock lens, smoothed out everything then formed some clear plastic over them. That's the simple version at least lol.

Did you put clear/non-lensed glass over the stock reflectors?  Mad That's half of what gives the beam pattern.

I made these so I can do a proper hid projector retrofit, so the beam pattern of the stock reflector bowl isn't gonna matter anyways. With the stock setup they do change the beam pattern though, you're right. But they will have projectors in them in a few weeks.
