Project Scraper UZX73
Originally started this swap in April 2012. Info copied from another forum.
Got stuck with this 88 Cressida again. It's pretty much a whore but I've decided to lock it down and give it a good home. Really stoked about this project and seeing it start to come together
Purchased a wrecked LS400 and it was out with the 7m
Out with the 1uz
Xcessive mounts
W58 with 1uzfeswapkit setup
1uz with ACT clutch setup
And W58 bolted up all ready to go
Some more slow progress was made. Here is the engine all back together and ready to go
Xcessive mounts bolted in and looking baller
Engine dropped in. Still sitting askew and hitting the brake booster >
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PwvC2ATNMQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Quick vid of the gauge cluster and a little revving. This thing is a beast and I hope to get it to firebird on the 10th

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
Anyway here's some more pics.
This was it when I got it back. Too much rake for me
Pulled the wheels off to adjust the sweet ground controls
Got it much more even and stopped scraping on flat ground lol
One more of the engine. Don't mind the clamp its temporary :p
Now goal is to get it registered and slowly start fixing up the interior... Oh yeah and slide the piss out of it lol. Not sure if I want to weld the diff or try to find a mk2 LSD.
Anyway, the beast is acting up lately. Ran out of gas a few weeks ago and the problems all started a day after that. It's really slow now. I mean terribly slow. I've checked the ignition coils and igniters. They all seem ok. Maf tests fine. Replaced fuel pump with a freaking sweet Evo 8 pump (thanks Jimmy!) Getting spark on all plugs. Compression test shows a healthy 175-195 ish reading. Inside the tank is clean with no rust.
Is it possible I just got a really bad tank of gas? Anyone had experiences with that?
Well here's some pics of what I've been up to lately:
Sound deadening removal
Got 30 pounds out of the trunk alone!
Really rough beginnings of a fuel pump access panel and evo pump installed
Turned out to be a bad cat. A little welding later and all was well.

Here's a pic of the serialnine rear subframe bushings installed
Finally fit some 205/50's in the rear. Now I need some for the front to match.
Working on getting the ac working.
Pulled the trim off the sides. Trying to remove all the adhesive is such a pain!

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
Probably not that bad. There's another at the yard here if ya want one. I just replaced mine with one from the yard ) worth every penny
Re: Project Scraper UZX73
How hard is it to remove? I took a quick look at one yesterday and figured it wasn't worth it. It was about 100 degrees out lol. If you want to snag one I'm down to pay you though!

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
not too bad if you don't care about losing 2 of the tabs attached by the bumper.... Try and remind me and ill take pictures of all the mounting points maybe tomorrow.
Re: Project Scraper UZX73
That would be awesome! I'll just go snag one from a local yard then. I wouldn't care if it was held on by zip ties if it had to be lol

Where did you find thos rear subframe bushings? They don't appear to be on serialnine's website..

Ignore that, they are on xcessive manufacturing not serialnine..

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
Nope they're on serialnine's website. Look a little harder next time. XM bushings are great I'm sure but theirs are poly while serialnine bushings are solid metal.

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
I had no issues receiving my s9 bushings. The only issue was the holes were the wrong size for the studs in my car. Once dremeled out though they're freaking sweet

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
What did you do for the exhaust? I pretty much have all the same parts except I'm going to a junk yard in PA in a couple of weeks to finally grab the engine. Would you be any help with the wiring?
Great build! Hope to get mine started soon!

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
Used the stock y pipe from an LS400 and just using a cherry bomb muffler. Single exhaust sounds amazing! You will not regret it. I'm sorry I won't be much help with the wiring. My buddy did it and he's more hands on

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
Thanks for the info! Forgot to ask about the headers. What needs to be done? Did you get custom ones made? Also, what diameter exhaust did you run?
I got the serialnine coilovers when I ordered the solid subframe bushings. Any reason why you didn't get them?

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
I'm poor lol. If I ever feel the need I think I'm going to buy powered by max ae86 coilovers and make them work.
The driver side header needs the rear runner cut off and run around the steering column. mine still rubbed on the steering column for a while until it dented it in. Definitely not the most efficient way but it is cost effective.

Haha I'm poor too. I bought the S9 coilovers 1.5 years ago. Still haven't installed them!
Would you mind posting up pictures of your exhaust install, paticularly the LS400 Y-pipe? Also, post a vid on Youtube of what your cars sounds like!

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
A donor 92 LS400 just landed in my driveway. It didn't come with a radiator and the Cressida radiator's inlet and outlet ports are smaller than the 1UZ's ports and coolant hoses. What radiator did you use for your swap? I'm confused....

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
Congrats! I'm using the stock X7 radiator. The hoses are a very poor solution for now. They're two hoses with a little pipe in the middle. They leak just a smidge when it gets really hot out and the pressure rises. I'm thinking I'm going to buy a mk4 supra radiator and make that fit. If you look on lextreme, they sell a modded mk4 radiator for LS400's so I assume that will work.

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
I'm fairly confident the LS400 radiator won't fit, so the MK4 Supra one won't fit either. In some Youtube movies and elsewhere, I've seen X73s with a Mishimoto radiator, which is made for the X8. The OEM X8 radiator is the same size and mounts the same as ours, but it's a two core unit instead. I'm really surprised how hard it is to find info on what radiator fits and works with the 1UZ.
If you decided to try the Lextreme radiator, please let us know how it goes. I have heard the Lextreme guy is really busy these days, so ask those guys over there first before you order.

Re: Project Scraper UZX73
If I do go the mk4 route I will just order the unmodded one. Since they mod it for an LS400 it probably wont do me much good. Some members on jzxp said they used the stock LS400 rad. Also, on the old site there was a good write up on how to fit an is300 koyo rad into an X chassis. So pretty much anything can be made to work
