Hey everyone!

Thought it might be good to bring some of the resources that were lost with toyotacressida back.

Hoping we can start a definitive parts list for 5speed swaps...

So I found a mk2 supra at a wrecker close to my house, pulled everything for a 5 speed swap without doing much research more or less hoping it would fit at that point I was going with the w58. Since than I have gathered more of the parts I need and found an R154 for a decent deal so I'm going with that instead. Everything has been fairly easy to find information on but what I haven't worked out yet is... For the R154 What flywheel/clutch do I use? Do I still go with the w58 flywheel? Than do I just use a mk3 7mgte clutch? And for the front half of the driveshaft I use the one from a mk3 turbo as well?

you will need to use a 7MGTE (MKIII turbo) flywheel. the turbo flywheel is thicker than the NA flywheel.

You have to use the front half driveshaft out of the MK3 turbo supra. Im actually in the middle of my swap right now. I got it in and it lined up perfect but I might need to swap carrier/hanger bearings of my auto shaft to the manual shaft. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes I do know you need to do that. And I believe part of the auto front half that attaches to the back half.

On a side note what Flywheel are you going with? I know I need a 7mge one, but just out of curiosity. Assuming you are still using the 5mge that is.

I'm using a stock 7mgte since it was pretty good. I resurfaced mine. Yes I'm holding on to the 5mge probably for a while.

And does anyone know the torque specs for the driveshaft? Specifically the 24mm bolt on the front half shaft that hold the carrier/hanger bearing? And the 4 bolts where te front shaft and rear shaft connect?

It's been 2-3 weeks after the install and car is running smooth and no major problems except grinding a little into 2nd gear. Rayray you got any grinds?

Btw parts and info you need for anyone wondering,

R154 from a MK3 supra
Bellhousing for M series motor
Front drive shaft from a turbo MK3 supra
Clutch Pedal from a Ae86 or KE70
Clutch Master Cylinder for MX73, AE86, KE70 (Bought mine from O'reillys)
Clutch slave for R154
Flywheel from turbo MK3 supra
Throwout bearing for turbo MK3 supra
Clutch disc and pressure plate for turbo MK3 supra
Soft lines and hard lines from turbo MK3 supra or full length stainless steel clutch line from drift motion.
Shifter from MK3 supra
Clutch fork and hub w/ washers from MK3 supra
Stock trans crossmember works, just spin it 180
Necessary bolts of course, I recommend buying new flywheel bolts and bellhousing bolts.
I also use MT90 gear oil as recommended by a lot, it does help the "notchy" shifting. The trans holds 3.2Qts
Don't forget some loctite and lithium grease.

To make life easier I pulled my 5MGE out. You need to install the clutch disc and pressure plate in the bellhousing then insert the whole trans to motor. Have someone crank the motor when bolting pressure plate through the tiny inspection holes. Then Install the fork.

Before sliding the motor and trans back in, get a sledge hammer and massage the trans tunnel towards firewall area where the bellhousing will be. Then Work your way towards the back of the tunnel. I ended up pounding the tunnel out for 3-4 hours.

For the driveshaft, you gotta swap carrier bearings from your stock shaft, just unbolt the 24mm bolt and tap the bearing off.

The stock speedo cable will work, but will break. Just use what you got, you just need to route it over the trans. When it does break I suggest buying a MX83 speedo, it is a tad bit longer and fits like a glove. There's a also the speedo cable for the MK3 turbo supra MT that fits, it's a lot longer from what I heard.

Bench bleed the master cylinder to get rid of trapped air. then bleed the clutch line. Have someone watch the fork pull the hub through the inspection plate to make sure it's engaging all the way.

As far as wiring the Neutral Safety Start you're connecting two wires located on the plug with three wires. It should be two thick wires one colored black and the other black/grey. Just cut, strip, solder and heat shrink together.

As far as the reverse lights go, chop the connector with the two wires (one black, one white) on the trans. Then you need to run wires (I used 14AWG) from the red/black wire, located on the same three plug as the neutral Switch, to the black wire on the trans. Then find a yellow/red wire, located on the connector with six wires, and run the new wire to the white wire on the trans.

I do have a diagram on my phone. Just give me your email and I'll forward it to you.
