bc coilover install step by step instructions with ba falcon brakes!

after a pm i received i thought id ad my contribution to the site and show how i installed coilovers to the x83
so bare with me and ill ad picks to make it easier to reverence

first step get some bc racing coils i got the top end models with pillow joint top and rubber lower bush
fronts

rears

front top

rear top
nothing need to be done to these just remove your rear parcel shelf to gain access and its just a few bolts


now this is the bottom of the front coilovers this is the part you have to weld to the bottom of the lower std strut
you have to cut the hub of the std front 50 mm ill show this later on
i drilled roset holes to add extra weld surface area ill also show this later on

ok this is how your stock suspension looks....gay lets throw coilover in shall we


remove the caliper and the rotor (crc or 5.56 is your friend)


remove the dust cover to expose the hub nut use a flat head strew driver to lift the locking tab up and undo the nut (make sure you do this back with torque wrench! mine felt good at 96 nm)

then the hub and wheel bearing should just slide off i suggest you inspect the wheel bearing at this stage as well

this is the abs sencor this has to remain so look after it when your removing it (if you dont have abs on your model dont worry about this)

undo the brake and abs lines from the side of the strut

this is the old long sway bar link throw this in the bin as this mounts from sway bar to strut tube and the new one in the coilover kit will replace this shit setup

this is the new sway bar link and the rubber mount fit snug into the holes that are already pressed into the a arm (also torque this up to spec)

while the stone guards are off im cutting them down to fit the brake upgrade later on

this is the bottom of the std strut notice ive left 50mm of the std strut tube on as this will locate the coilovers
best way to do this is to get some 50mm masking tape and rap around the tube and cut along the edge of the tape with a cutting disk

this is how clean the knuckle must be before any pre heat and welding

drill the roset holes i spoke about earlier

time to pre heat and weld don't pre heat the tube just the cast steel. i used a 3 phase 350 mig with .9 wire

note after you finish welding keep heating lightly with the oxy torch to slow the cooling process or place in a bucket of sand
then cleen up and paint black to stop rust

now i also bought the techno toy tuning rca adjusters from there website there a good solid one peace cnc design and comes with the longer high tensile bolts needed


now its time to place the rca in place

install the coilover in the car and torque the rca up spec

now put it all back together and repeat for the other side

to do the rears you have to remove the rear seat and parcel shelve but apart from that 4 bolts and there in

i then put some stock r33 rims i have on to clear the brakes im about to do these are now changed to good rays rim but if you on a budget id use these rim
and this is the base high so can go much lower

ok now thats done ill show the ba falcon 300mm and r33gtst 4 pot front brake upgrade i know you guys in usa dont have falcons but in australia this stops the x83 in a heart beat and one of the best upgrades ive done to the handling of the car i use good nismo brake pads too

i got custom hub rings made to make up the centre of the hub

now the install this is the size difference compared to std rotors

easy as 123 just unbolt the caliper and pull the rotor off and put the new ones on
i first painted the calipers with high temp caliper paint to make em look sexy


and there you have it plus they look sexy with good rims on to take up heaps of space in the front


now enjoy your x83 with this sick setup hope this helps a few
this is still not as low as it can go as i still need to do heaps of guard work and change my tyre width but you get the idea.....enjoy
