Trunk won't open.... Empty Trunk won't open....

Post by xpaahhhx Fri Sep 19, 2014 10:01 pm

So this might sound stupid, but i tried to open my trunk the other day, and the release lever was really loose. I pulled up the carpet a bit to check if the cable had snapped, but it didn't. I could still hear a clicking sound in the trunk area when i pull the lever. Any ideas? Also, my key won't open it, never did...

Try with the key, if it opens it, it may be in valet mode.  On the latch that is on the deck lid, there is a peg that moves, one position disables the pull handle inside so that a valet can't raid your trunk, sound like you have a valet key as well (it only works the doors and ignition not the trunk or glove box), so you will have to pull out the back seat. If you need pictures leave me know and I would be more than happy to.

@theghiaisred
My key doesn't work, i'm too afraid to break my key. I tried looking in the back seat, but i couldn't get into the trunk through there. (At least I don't think so..)
I would appreciate some pictures! Thanks

Man, I don't know what car I was thinking of that I could "lock out" the remote release, I swore is was the MX73 but I was completely wrong. If you take out the back seat, there is a fiberboard partition between it and the trunk area along with a steel webbing of braces, if you are a bean pole you may be able to fit through it and pry the latch where the cable goes to release the trunk. Another option is a locksmith to open the trunk, or a screw driver and hammer to the lock. The Latch is in the lid it's self for sure though, I went to get pictures last night and realized I was wrong about the Valet Mode, I'm sorry I gave you hope on that.

It's cool man, thanks a lot though. I'll try the trunk again, i doubt i'd be able to fit though. If not, then i'll see whats up with a locksmith.

Is the key hole on the trunk in the horizontal position?

Yeah, it is. I managed to get through the trunk and found that the little white plastic end of the trunk cable was broken, so the cable was loose. So I tied the cable to the trunk to tighten it a bit. The problem's solved for now, thanks for the help yall!

Had the same problem a few weeks ago. My cable has the little white piece of plastic that keeps the cable where it's supposed to be as well. I only have the valet key. Ended up zip timing the cable to a wire just above the cable outside the latch. Keeps it tight so the little ball on end of cable opens latch and works pretty well. How do you get the cylinder out of the trunk to replace it? They sell new ones with key at autozone, ect.for probably less than a locksmith would cost

Did you pull out that metal tab holding it in place?

Not sure what you're talking about. On the cable or cylinder?

On the inside of the trunk, there's a metal tab above the latch. . Just pull it out.

Found it. When i got the car I had to part out my first Cressida, got the glove box cylinder out and into this one but couldn't figure out how to get the trunk lock out. TRSM doesn't say. Going to get a new cylinder for the trunk so I have a key for it or see how much it would cost to have it rekeyed so I don't have 3 different keys for the car. Thanks.
