Best suited lsd and ratio for mx83
What LSD's are compatible with the x8 and what would be the best ratio to go with?

for what type of driving. that's what matters. clutch type is better for drifting. torsen for track/racing.
Re: Best suited lsd and ratio for mx83
the mk3 supra diff will fit; the x8 chassis lacks one of the mounting points for the supra diff, if you see burnouts/drag/drifting in your future then it will probably require some fabrication. Im leaving mine grandpa spec, just tired of getting stuck in muddy driveways. i believe the mk3 turbo/auto came with a 3.90/lsd, and should be the best option for someone as broke as i am.

For drifting I would get MK3 pumpkin 3.91 lsd with clutch lsd. you can upgrade the clutch for better grabbing or you can change to different clutch type such as TRD, etc.
xcessive manufacturing makes a weld on kit that will allow you to mount MK3 pumpkin right to our Cressida.
I prefer Helical and have Toyotas Helical Torsen 2 LSD.

I always thought you could swap the mk3 lsd into the mx83 carrier housing?

Is the Australian spec grande lsd the same as the mk3?
And ratio?
And ratio?

Nostalgic Hero: Yes, you can swap the MK3 differential into the X8 housing. I have one. Dropped right in and toyota manufacturing specs are tight enough the gear contact was right too. Much easier than trying to graft the supra housing onto a cressida as long as you check and correct the gear lash.
Slickbackcadillac: From what I've read, the cressida LSD uses the shims/clutches in a different order to reduce the grippyness. Change the order and then it's identical to the MK3 LSD.
OP: is this car 100% drift track use or still going to be street licensed and driven? what engine mods? what transmission? other mods? more street use = lower number ratio. less powerful engine/fewer mods = higher number ratio. It'll be hard for you to give us too much information about your mods (current and planned) and intended usage.

i have an 87 supra turbo diff lying on my garage floor that i might be willing to get off of. not positive of the ratio. it was a 5-speed so guessing 3.73's.

I'm with Forgottenzone, Torsen for me !
I can maintain a better drift with my T2 style Torsen than I could ever do with my modified OEM clutch-pack (shimmed main spring, and booster spring).
And absolutely on rails in the twisties.
Gear ratio depends on what engine, how it's built, what trans, and of course, what you are doing with the car.
I run an all motor 7M that has big cams, and turns 8500+, so I run 4.56 gears. I still have a top end 175mph, and it will still knock down 22mph on the highway.
When I go to the drags, it gets another housing bolted in that has 5.29 gears.

Sure you can fit MK3 internals into Cressidas Pumpkin. This was my original route, but for the power i will be putting down with my 2jzgte vvti there is no way that Cressidas pumpkin will be able to stay in 1 peace.
After i took all the internals out and threw away MK3 pumpkin housing. Dont ask why. i Still am hitting my head why i did it. It took me a long time to find another 3.91 pumpkin. they are so hard to find now days. most of the places dont even know they exist. so now i am going with MK3 pumpkin with Torsen 2 LSD and Reinforced rear sub frame. I actually found a nice rust free rear sub frame and am putting it all together, then i will just swap it with the original 1.

Yeah, that is where I am at.
Have the other subframe all welded up, just trying to get up the ambition to pull the other.
I go in spurts, think about what I want to do, think some more on how to do it, think some more about how much work it will be, think of new ways to do it.
(I think this is tipicly called procrastination, and is considered a mental defect).
Then after months of 'thinking', finally get my act together, and do it !
It has helped a bunch getting rid of my second X8.
I have got more stuff done in the past 6 months, than in the 2 years before dumping the other Cressida.
Oh, and the reason why old farts end up with so much junk,
is that they realize that as soon as they throw something away,
they will need it
