Timken Bearings in X7 Rear Diff?
86 X73 w/factory LSD
Pinion bearing went, decided to get the Timken kit [DRK350] because it's over $100 cheaper than buying 4 Toyota bearings + seals + crush spacer + nut.
But the diff bearings are too Goddamn thin. They go on fine, but there's literally a 1/8" gap between the inside of the carrier and the spacer/shim [diff on it's side, shims/bearings/races installed correctly, "top" {RH side} shim has 1/8" gap above it]. WAY more than anything I can take up with thicker shims.
Checked the Timkens against the old bearings and they're roughly 1/16" thinner than the OE ones.
Didn't touch the diff/ring gear at all, just pressed off the old bearings and pressed on the new ones.
I'm probably just going to order the Toyota stuff and a solid spacer, just wondering WTF is going on and if anyone else has tried this kit or Timken bearings in one of these.
I've used Timken lots of times in the past and never had a problem.
This is fucking ridiculous.

My friend had issues with Timken wheel bearings in his Mazda3. He had to order and send back like 5 bearings because all the ones he received had bad spots in the rotation.

I know a guy who makes bearings for Timken, I'm not surprised they're producing junk.

That sucks. Tinken used to be top quality bearings.

Re: Timken Bearings in X7 Rear Diff?
Just to clarify, I'm pretty sure the bearings would all work.
But this kit was supposed to be a bolt in kit and have everything I needed to install.
Instead I'm left with a giant gap that shouldn't be there and no shims to fix it.
The Toyota ones are way too thin, unless I doubled or tripled them.
And it didn't have seals for the axles.
I'm probably just going to return this and use Toyota stuff.
Less hassle.

Toyota OEM Stuff... Make sure you give them Vin# to confirm right parts... Do it once pay the price, and do it right... Tinken stuff did not work for our x7 diffs either...
Re: Timken Bearings in X7 Rear Diff?
yes, the races are the wrong size, even tho they state they work. they do not, I've tried bearing races from everyone, everyone has them wrong, you can only get the side carrier bearing races from Toyota. I had the same diff kit. . it sucked. the bearings themselves are the right size. just the race.alltracman78 wrote:86 X73 w/factory LSD
