MKIII Supra DIfferentials that fit MX83
These Diffs can be used eather to swap internals to our Differential pumpkins, or to replace our Differential with MKIII once.
Our Rear wheel axles bolt right up and are strong enough. Don't need any replacement unless they are no good.
first 2 are NON - LSD options.
the bottom 3 are Clutch LSD's.
G284 = 4.30:1 4-pinion 8.0" pre-89 N/A Diff (no-LSD, USA Only)
G282 = 4.30:1 2-pinion 8.0" 89+ N/A Diff (no-LSD, USA Only)
G285 = 4.30:1 4-pinion 8.0" N/A Diff (with-LSD)
G315 = 3.91:1 4-pinion 8.0" pre-89 Turbo Diff (with-LSD)
G305 = 3.73:1 4-pinion 8.0" 89+ Turbo Diff (with-LSD)
I have G315. Very hard to find. many used parts and junk yards don't even know they made these.
They can be found only in 87-88 turbo MKIII's I believe only Automatics. if you find them localy and can go and look at the donor car look at the plate on the drivers side fire wall in the engine bay for the Diff. code. this will tell you what Diff. it has.
If you want to use MKIII Differential Xcessive Manufacturing offers a weld on to sub frame kit with polly bushings. You will need to use your Rear aluminum Cressida DIff cover. to be able to mount it to the Cressida Subframe.
Here is the link for their Kit:

Luckily the gears are interchangeable on the diff (and obviously must be kept as a set) so you can use the VERY common MX83 3.91 set.
Good info.

There are aftermarket gear sets available all the way up to 5.8.
(Toyota truck V6 gear sets)
I run 4.56 that is actually from a GX81 in Japan.
Another available set from the factory was 4.1 (possibly from the JZA70 Supra).
Truck gear sets are 4.1, 4.56, 4.88, 5.29, and 5.8.

Re: MKIII Supra DIfferentials that fit MX83
is the G315 in all 86-87 MK-III Turbo's or just the automatic ones? i thought that all the manual's had 3.73's. (im not sure though...)
i have an LSD diff that i kept from an 87 MK-III Turbo that was a 5-speed car. i never thought to check the VIN plate.
any idea what gear ratio it is? i dont really want to put 3.73's in my factory X8.

Is that info only for mk3 or x8 or is that for all toyotas? or a more direct question, will those charts decipher the diff in my x7?

All Toyotas.
No Supra ever came with a 6" or 14" ring gear.

Truck 4x4 gears might be in the 4.1+ range but 2wd V6s have 8" diffs down to mid-3.xx. My truck right now has a 3.07 8" but it's a 4cyl and might have a different pinion length. I know there are different housings for 4cyl vs 6cyl/4x4, I think different pinion lengths to go with it.

Re: MKIII Supra DIfferentials that fit MX83
maybe this is threadjacking or whatever and my car is an x7 not an x8 but i'm gong to ask here anyway. I have read a fair bit about the x7 but all I have heard is that the come with an open diff unless they were a factory 5 speed? I've known from day 1 there was an LSD in mine but I thought it was swapped in after and I lucked out. anyway my diff code is F293. Was the LSD just an option? If so was anything else in that package?

Re: MKIII Supra DIfferentials that fit MX83
might have been a factory option. i know that toyota sold a lot more cars with LSD's in them up in canada. if it says F293 on your data plate than it must have come with the car.

I know it's factory now that I looked at the plate. I thought it was swapped in before I saw this.

With a jz in the front you would want at least a 4.3 LSD to make use of the rev ability and have sweet takeoff

With a 1jz in the front you would want at least a 4.3 LSD to make up for the lack of torque.
With a 2jz, you won't have the problem.
There, fixed it........
