BrettO's Cressida's - Pic heavy.
Hi this is a Build thread/story about me and my cressy's this will be a picture heavy thread.
I have had a few cars over the years Started off with a reliable 86 mazda 323 and Built a RB25 turbo R32 Skyline when i owned that.
Got in a heep of trouble with that (and the Mrs hated it ) so i decided to sell up and get a nice reliable toyota corolla.
Soon that was lowered on 17's and i wanted more so i flicked the Mrs and got my first cressida. Was trawling through Trademe (NZ equivalent of Cragslist/E-bay) and came across A MX73 cressida. I got love for you if you were born in the 80's and i was hooked at first site. Digital dash , Leather interior, Cruise control , power windows, Zero aero dynamics and plenty of room . Yes please!!
Purchased it lowered on cut but captive MA60 springs with shortened shocks and no name 18's. Never liked the fitment of them so one day when i was looking for some rims for my mates R34 i stumbled across the lenso wide tracks . Spent that night tracking some down and had a set fitted on the car by the weekend 18 x 8 + 20p up front 18 x 9 +20 out back . 205 45 /18 all round.
Then i did the usual 5 speed conversion, exhaust and planned on crusing it for a bit and eventually drop a 1uzfe V8 in. Ended up doing a r33 turbo brake conversion on it .
I procrastinated on the engine until the law ordered the car off the road (had new tires fitted to the rear which resulted in guard rub which a cop spotted and didnt like plus with the modified brakes i wouldnt get a roadworthy).
So i got the 1uz and ripped the 5m out
Dropped the 1uz in then went to work in saudi for a while. progress was slow as you would expect but i picked up some goodies via the internet megan coilovers to start/ w5* - 1uz manual adapter kit .
When i got back i started on the next hurdle, the headers.... the standard ones fit fine on the passengers side but the Steering column Knuckle landed smack bam in the middle of the drivers side.
Being lazy (and not going for all out performance) i decided the easiest thing was to replicate the factory header "style" so i would still have even flow side to side.
Just clears
All welded up. Next i moved onto the manual trans,
its easy to find a W55 in NZ but to get one with the rear mounted shifter position isnt. I didnt want to cut my trans tunnel so luckly my mate had one and for his project didnt matter where the shifter was so i scored that.
But the offset still isnt enough so out came the grinder.
right offset in the housing. Now for the Shifter shaft
all done ready for a wash and install.
Next the Megans..
Ride hight was ok with the cut springs and shocks but it sagged when the tank was full . This was made worse with the 1uz fitted as its lighter than the 5m
comparisons rear
Installed
rear full sag
Fronts installed
Front full sag.
Back on her feet!
Then.... Off overseas again. So into storage she went.
Thats where she still is now . And im still overseas (Vietnam) but i did have enough time to get this MX73 "missile" before i left. Here it is parked with my mates 1uz GX71 Cress.
So i left home 5th of may 2012, while i was working away i saved some cash and got my self a nice pile of goodies waiting for me when i got home for a short break for christmas

I think you installed your rear coilovers wrong xD the collar is supposed to be up top! but probably doesn't make too much of a difference! I love the BBS! MORE PICTURES!!! also, love the 1 uz! you should do a full write up of the swap! I am thinking of saving up and doing a 1uz.

Yeah I cant remember which way up i ended up installing them. I tried both ways. Cant remember if that pic was final or not. Didnt seem to matter but i remember it was difficult to get at the adjuster nuts one way.
As for the BBS yeah i love them too. Specs are 15 x 8.5 +7j with a 2.5" Lip and 15 x 9 -10j with a 3" Lip. Running 195/50/15's all round. Plan is to wear out the tires and then put the 15 x 9 's on the front and get 4" lips to make 15 x 10's out back.
Now some pics
Stance before lowering
Rear's poke before lowering
Front poke before lowering
Front sag standard springs. So much room !!
Add some BC Golds .....
Fronts with 25mm Techno Toy tuning RCAs
Rears
Only Ran into 1 issue , Even with a +7 offset on the front having the RCA's Extended the bottom of strut too far and with the 15" rims the steering knuckle hit the rim. I had some 25mm bolt on spacers but the centre spigot was too big. Lucky i had another 10mm slip on spacer to get the wheel on. I max out the negitive camber and with a offset of - 28 and the Struts as low as could go i had ZERO guard rub in the front . I even drove 200 km to pick up new 25mm bolt on spacers . This all tells me one thing. NOT LOW enough!
I have some shorter BC inserts on order which will get me lower. Another 25 - 30 mm and i will be happy.
Now some shot's with my Vespa
Towing the Vespa and my holiday stuff around the coast of NZ
Last thing i Got before i had to go back to Vietnam was this Nardi Deep dish Wheel, Cost me a arm and a leg but i love it! so nice to drive with too!
That will be all from me until i head home in a few weeks, I just purchased a house with my mate (who owns the white 1uz Cress) Its got a 100m2 garage and another workshop so there will be plenty of updates once we shift in and get all set up. Cant wait to see all 3 in their.
Going to put my 5 speed and exhaust off my first 73 onto the missile and leave that as my daily driver . Then all focus will be back onto DOWORK until she is spinning her tires in Anger and back on the road.

What was the hardest part about the 1UZ swap for you? How did you sort out the wiring? Great job! Your car looks awesome.

Re: BrettO's Cressida's - Pic heavy.
A Lot has happened since i posted this . Prob better to update anyway : My Blue Cressida i was calling DOWORK here has moved on to bigger and better things....
I sold it my Flat mate and he has spent a lot more time and money on it Its now running a Intercooled 671 Roots blower on the 1uz backed up with a tilton twinplate clutch and R154, lots of cool custom stuff he has done all in our garage, Check out his instagram : hollywoodbam if you want to see more. Its going to be INSANE when its done.
As for the Missile/beater i will start another thread for that
