MX73 won't start. Need serious help!!!
My 86 Cressida isn't starting, turning over, making any noises, etc etc etc.
Story began like this: I came back from Texas and hopped in the car after 2 weeks of sitting (maybe even less cause my brother moved it to the side of the driveway) and it started 1st time fine. Struggled a bit but it started and ran. I let it run for a few minutes then i turned it off. I tried to turn it on again shortly after and it would just make a ticking noise and my dash slowly started to lose power. I kept trying to crank till the dash completely died and the car wouldn't make a sound. Now nothing happens. No noises or anything.
So far I've replaced the battery and main relay fuse. All the fuses checked out fine and my starter is still new.. Im thinking its the ignition switch but i want to be 100% sure. I can't keep buying parts that won't fix this problem..

Ok before you just throw more parts at it, let me give you some diagnostic advice. You will need a couple simple tools A. a multi-meter analog or digital B. a test light. First simply test I would try is take the test and clip the alligator clip to a non insulated male spade terminal and insert it into the trigger wire for the starter the point end open the hood and stick it into the gap of the negative battery cable clamp with the hood open try to start it and watch for the light to light. If it does your ignition switch is fine, and you need to do a voltage drop test. So the way the voltage drop test works is, you take the multi-meter and set it to read 12v make sure the black lead has a good ground, preferably at the battery and check that you have 12v +- at the battery to start with, then check the big wire on the starter, as well back at the fuse box Underwood at the main fuse. If you do not have 12v+- at any of these points then that wire is bad. If you have 12v +- and the test light lit up you have a bad starter which is what I would suspect since your lights are being drawn down, a bad starter will draw your battery reserve down quick trying to start it. You can check your grounds to the engine using voltage drop also simple put the red lead to the positive battery terminal and check for it to read the same 12v+- at the intake manifold with the black lead. Bad grounds to the engine can do crazy things. If your test light did not light on the first test there are several things that could cause that, such as a bad brake lamp switch, transmission range sensor being the popular ones that will kill 12v to the ignition switch. Try these 2 simple test and let me know the outcome and if you are still leaning toward the switch I will help you further. I am not saying it's not bad just unlikely.

theghiaisred, is correct. Voltage drop on 73's big problem....... I had a year of tracing faults out of my ignition - starter circuit to end up putting a starter relay in. This is triggered by your solenoid wire (STA) which you remove off your starter and switches the relay you fit (normally open) allowing direct battery current to flow to the starter solenoid. Never play up again AND I'd done starter, contacts, earth wiring, ignition switch, battery, battery leads......... common Toyota fault and this is THE fix.

This happened to me a few months ago, I'm new to the cressida scene. It would start sometimes and then not. I taught it was the starter because after a few bangs it started right up. Earlier today, no start, battery fully charged, all lights working, electronics working and no signs of a parasitic drain. MCANX, are you saying to simply bypass the relay or to wire in an starter relay? Thanks in advance

To wire in a starter relay, yes.
